Cannabis-derived terpenes (CDTs) are extracted directly from specific cannabis strains. The terpene extract contains terpenes as well as other aromatic compounds like esters, aldehydes, and ketones. This unique blend is responsible for the strain's complete aroma and flavor profile, which is preserved throughout the process. CDTs are best for True-to-Flower™ flavors.

Botanical-derived terpenes (BDTs), meanwhile, precisely reconstruct the terpene profile of specific cannabis strains using terpenes extracted from other botanical sources (such as citrus fruits or herbs). While they can accurately replicate the original terpene profile, BDTs don't contain the additional aromatic compounds found in CDTs.

In general, it is far more cost-effective to extract terpenes from other botanical sources, making botanical-derived terpenes a more scalable solution.
