Tincture Potency Calculator
Tinctures are sold by concentration, so the number that matters is mg per ml. The tincture potency calculator converts extract weight, carrier oil volume and terpene load into mg/ml, mg per dropper and mg per bottle — or runs backward to tell you how much extract you need for a target.
What the tincture calculator works out
- Final potency in mg/ml, accounting for the volume the extract and terpenes add to the oil.
- mg per serving (set serving size to your dropper volume) and mg per bottle.
- Bottles filled from the total volume.
- Extract needed — switch the mode and enter a target mg/ml to solve for grams of extract.
- Carrier oil in ml, fluid ounces or liters; adjustable oil density for MCT, olive, hemp seed or sesame.
How to formulate a tincture
- Pick the carrier — MCT (0.94 g/ml) is the default for clarity and shelf life.
- Enter extract weight and potency from the COA, or enter a target mg/ml and let the calculator size the extract.
- Add terpenes at 0.25–1% of blend weight for flavor and entourage effect; Therapeutic Terpene Blends are formulated for sublingual use.
- Set bottle size (30 ml is standard) and serving size (1 ml dropper) to get label-ready numbers.
Terpenes for tinctures
Because tinctures are not heated, you can use the full range of terpenes for tinctures, including delicate floral and citrus profiles. Terpenes are oil-soluble and blend cleanly into MCT; dose by weight and stir until uniform before bottling.
Tincture potency FAQ
How do I make a 1000 mg tincture in a 30 ml bottle?
That is 33.3 mg/ml. With 90% distillate you need about 1.11 g of extract per bottle. Enter 30 ml oil, select “Input material needed” and type 33.3 as the target — the calculator returns the exact grams.
How many mg are in a full dropper?
A standard 1 ml dropper at 30 mg/ml delivers 30 mg; a half dropper delivers 15 mg. Set serving size to your dropper volume and the calculator reports mg per serving.
Does adding extract change the volume?
Yes, slightly. 1 g of distillate adds about 1 ml, so a 30 ml bottle with 1 g of extract is really 31 ml of tincture. The calculator includes extract and terpene volume in the mg/ml result.
Can I calculate a CBD tincture?
Yes. Enter your CBD isolate or distillate potency and read the results as mg CBD per ml.
